MOCK EXAM-EXAM 4 SPECIAL SESSION
Date: TBA
Time: TBA
Location: TBA
Welcome to SI!
SI sessions will be held twice a week and will last on average 1 hour. You may come and leave as you please during a session - Supplemental Instruction is very informal in that regard. However, it is very structured: we will go over a worksheet that highlights the most important ideas and the most difficult concepts from that week's lecture(s). My goal is to not only help you understand the information, but also to help you think critically and to apply the knowledge that you learn to answer questions and think more broadly about the biological world.
As such, my worksheets will be rife with multiple choice questions - at least two per worksheet - and we will work through these often challenging questions together as a class. The multiple choice questions will likely appear either at the beginning of the worksheet (as a diagnostic) or at the end of the worksheet (as an evaluation). If it is included at the beginning of the worksheet, it may be accompanied by review questions - questions pertaining to concepts covered in previous lectures or from previous tests that relate in some significant way to the material at hand. After these, there will be a Key Terms and Ideas section, which will cover key vocabulary and simple concepts that are integral to understanding the rest of the lecture material. Following this is the meat of the worksheet: The Key Concepts and Making Connections section. It is in this section that you will truly be challenged to think broadly and critically about the information presented. You will organize information in charts, tables, venn diagrams, etc., and will construct flowcharts and the like.
About 1-2 weeks before each exam, I will post a mock exam to this website. It will try to mimic, in all its brutality, a Cusic exam (to the best of my ability). We will also have a Mock Exam Session on the weekend immediately before the exam. This will be a special session where I go over all of the questions on the mock exam and answer any and all last minute questions you may have.
I look forward to working with all of you this semester.
Sincerely,
Tushar Ramesh
